A Refreshing Picnic~by~the~River at Pownalborough Courthouse

Garden Club of Wiscasset members enjoyed a delightful "Picnic by the River" on Tuesday, July 15th, hosted by the dedicated Pownalborough Courthouse (PCH) Garden Team. Approximately 30 members attended, including a welcome number of brand-new faces, filling the historic grounds with lively conversation and camaraderie.

A hot and humid start to the afternoon caused some to 'glisten' and others to 'shimmer'; however, members quickly found shady spots to settle in. A light breeze soon arrived, transforming the weather into a perfectly pleasant evening, ideal for enjoying the stunning views of the Kennebec River flowing by.

The PCH Garden Team provided a unique and refreshing experience with an array of garden-grown herbal teas. Members and their guests enthusiastically sampled and voted on their favorites among the varied options: Lavender & Chamomile, Chocolate Mint, Hibiscus & Apple Mint, and Rhubarb. These refreshing beverages, along with a selection of summer treats also offered by the PCH team, perfectly complemented the delicious picnic baskets brought by attendees.

The atmosphere was wonderful as members chatted, nibbled, and sipped on the beautiful grounds of this historic gem. In line with President Sheila Scott's broader initiative to assess our club's gardens, postcards invited members to share their thoughts and suggestions for the Pownalborough Courthouse garden, noting its strengths and areas for improvement. The gathering was not just a social event but also an opportunity for members to connect and contribute to the ongoing care of this beautiful 18th-century-inspired garden, maintained by the GCW since 2010.
