More Than Flowers

A few months ago, I was in the parking lot at AMES TRUE VALUE in Wiscasset when a sturdy-looking Maine Man approached me, smiling.  Pointing to the Garden Club of Wiscasset sticker on my truck, he asked me if I was part of the group, and I said “Yes.” He then asked me if that’s the club that maintains the garden at the Coastal Cancer Treatment Center.

When I nodded, he unexpectedly teared up. “ Those gardens helped me keep it together when I was undergoing chemo up there.  You can’t imagine what they meant to me. I stopped by every time I was out there. And I contributed to the garden.”

We don’t know the work that we do, we don’t know the lives that we touch.
